So grab a bottle of your favorite hydrator, tell a friend what your route is if you plan to travel solo, wear a helmet if you’re riding a bike and… step into Southern California’s playground.

Mountain bike

A dirt road near your street.

Where: Kenter Canyon. Brentwood. The mouth of this ride is easily accessible from the Westside or the 405 Freeway. From Sunset Boulevard take Kenter north, 2.3 miles along an incline till you hit a parking area.

Level of difficulty: Nothing technical this is a nice ride to sneak in a little aerobic exercise outdoors.

Route Covers: Kenter fire road.

Mileage: 4.8, roundtrip

The Route:

  1. Access the fire road through a yellow gate. You'll start with a brief but steep uphill ride which then turns into a downhill.
  2. Stay on the main fire road throughout your ride.
  3. At 1.5 miles into your ride you'll see the gate/entrance for Mountain District. Enter through the gate.
  4. You'll cross a fence line and then make a climb passing a green storage tank just before you hit 2.0.
  5. At 2.0 miles, you'll hit ashphalt. Stay on the road till you run into the gate for the "Mountaingate" development. That's your turn-around point to head back home.
