Hike

Deep in the Gorge, Zuma Canyon's Waterfall

Where: Bonsall Canyon, Malibu. Trailhead is located at the end of Bonsall Drive which intersects with the Pacific Coast Highway.

Level of difficulty: Be prepared for hand-and-foot climbing. You'll encounter boulders and varying stream levels.

Route Covers: : The lush stream running from Bonsall Canyon up to Kanan Dume Road.

Mileage: 6.6 miles, round-trip

The Route:

  1. The trail begins at a gate at the end of Malibu's beautiful Bonsall Canyon.
  2. Walk for approximately 1.4 miles till the trail is stopped by the onslaught of boulders. Here's the start of the fun part.
  3. Boulder up the canyon for almost two-miles. (Enjoy the climb and the stream but don't forget to hydrate!)
  4. The next landmark you'll see is of-the-human kind-high voltage electric wire. Followed about a half-mile later by Edison Road. That's the turning point for the return trip.
